Novartis (NVS) will cut 2,500 jobs worldwide by 2010 in an attempt to save $1.6 billion, the drugmaker said Thursday, becoming the latest major pharmaceutical company to announce layoffs. The company also offered a downbeat outlook for its U.S. pharmaceutical business in the first quarter due to generic competition for four drugs and lost sales on a discontinued product.
